Outreach, Inc. is a church marketing & media company that equips the Church to reach people for Jesus Christ through over ten websites that reach around the world, two magazines, a speaker's bureau, Apps, websites, print products, and more. MISSION (Job Summary): 

The Associate Editor (online and print) contributes to the effectiveness of the award-winning Outreach magazine, both print and online, through excellent and timely writing, editing and issue planning; through maintaining an awareness of trends shaping the American evangelical church and its outreach; and through fostering effective relationships and collaboration with readers, churches and church networks.

OUTCOMES (Job Task, Metrics or Accountabilities):          

  • Write and edit online and print features, as assigned, with excellence and timeliness 
  • Assume initiative for magazine features and departments, as assigned, planning and assigning content; maintaining productive relationships with freelance writers and church contacts; ensuring that assignments are completed on time and in accordance with the magazine's editorial guidelines and expectations, with fidelity to our statement of faith        
  • Actively contribute to magazine planning and evaluation meetings'which implies an awareness of trends, both in the church and in the broader culture, as well as actively following how leading churches are seeking to reach their communities and have a redemptive impact on the broader culture        
  • Maintain a regular schedule of tracking local church outreach ideas and events to ensure a constant flow of church-tested ideas to populate the website and to feature in magazine church profiles; contact and network with these churches so they feel a sense of inclusion and "ownership" of the magazine        
  • Contribute to additional editorial projects and research, as assigned        
  • Coordinate online, e-newsletter and social media efforts, in concert with the editor, editorial team and affiliated and partner content providers'helping to ensure a steady flow of timely, audience-appropriate content with expanding reach and deepening engagement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:

  • At least a B.A. in journalism or communications'or equivalent experience 

Experience:  

  • Proven experience as an effective and excellent writer, editor, copy editor and proofreader, with experience in both print and online communications.
  • Proficient in website content management systems (such as WordPress) and social media tools.
  • Well-acquainted with the beliefs and trends of the American evangelical church.
  • Acquaintance with other areas of the magazine business a plus; how editorial relates to design and production; circulation and fulfillment; marketing and advertising.
